SourceHUB is looking for a full stack software developer to join our team and help to modernize the food, beverage and consumer product packaging industry by automating workflows, increasing collaboration in an ever-changing remote work world, and deriving insights from masses of data. We're experiencing rapid growth, and need to bolster our team with top talent seeking challenging and complex work. With a small team size, this position should call to anyone looking to wear several hats and diversify their development skill rather than focusing on a narrow specialty.

Our software product is newer (<1 year in active development) and utilizes several modern technologies: Node.js, Nest.js, React, Recoil, Kubernetes on AWS cloud. You'll work with the latest tools to support software loved by it's users: prospects and subscribers alike. Our solution has few competitors and fulfills a market need major consumer brands need to keep packaging up with the pace of marketing research.

This is a remote position with an in-person option (if you're located in the Chicago area). Some travel may be required to the Chicago area for company events and summits. For remote workers, strong and reliable internet is a requirement, as well as exceptional communication skills. Working hours are very flexible; but we do request you're generally available in the central time zone's typical office hours as needed.

Your responsibilities:

Required experience:

  • Very strong understanding of basic web development (HTML, CSS, Chrome Inspector)
  • Very strong understanding of basic developer tools (git, debuggers, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of a (non-vanilla, non-jQuery) front end framework (such as React, Angular, or Vue)
  • Strong understanding of a (non-express) mature back end framework (Nest, Laravel, Rails, Spring, etc.)
  • General understanding of writing SQL and working with relational databases.
  • Good eye for aesthetics: layout, grid systems, and typography.
  • Excellent time-management and multi-tasking.
  • Understanding of the limitations of web and mobile, with approaches/ideas to flex those boundaries.
  • Must be responsive, flexible, and able to succeed within an open and collaborative peer environment.
  • Should be self-driven with basic guidance.
  • Understanding of agile development practices (standups, stories, sprint plannings)
  • One of:
    • Recent graduate of a trade school utilizing our technologies (Node, React, *SQL) with a hands-on approach
    • BA/BS in related discipline, such as computer science (note: demonstrated skills will take precedence over education)
    • 2-4 years professional experience in a similar software developer role (which language/technology is not important)
    • Self taught with extensive experience working in open source software or public projects

Desired experience / nice to have:

  • Experience with web performance optimization methods.
  • Good design skills.
  • Mobile optimization, PWA development, or App development.
  • Developing best-in-class consumer experiences (user interface designs, interaction models, prototypes, etc.) in a fast-paced, agile, start-up-like environment.
  • Experience in designing and building web services, SQL Databases, and cloud-based architectures.
  • Experience with container development and/or Kubernetes.
  • Experience with infrastructure/server tools like sed, awk, and grep.
  • Experience developing and/or documenting public-facing APIs (GraphQL, Rest, SOAP, etc.) or working with integrations.
